Job Title: Experienced Bookkeeper / Accounts Manager (UK Construction)

Location: remote, UK

Time commitment: cca. 15 hours a week, can be less

Pay: monthly, agreed hourly rate

We are a growing UK construction company seeking a highly experienced and meticulous Bookkeeper/Accounts Manager to take ownership of our day-to-day financial operations. The successful candidate will be a proficient QuickBooks user with in-depth knowledge of the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) and direct experience handling HMRC compliance within the construction sector.

This pivotal role requires a self-starter who can maintain accurate weekly accounts, manage subcontractor compliance, and provide essential financial support to our project management team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Bookkeeping & Accounting: Full-cycle bookkeeping using QuickBooks, ensuring all payments and costs are accurately updated on a weekly basis.

  • CIS Compliance: Expertly manage all aspects of the Construction Industry Scheme, including subcontractor verification, correct deduction calculations, and preparation of monthly CIS returns to HMRC.

  • HMRC & Compliance: Handle all relevant HMRC submissions and inquiries, ensuring the company remains fully compliant with UK tax and financial regulations.

  • Subcontractor Management: Process and manage all subcontractor paperwork, including invoices, payment details, and issuing deduction statements.

  • Financial Reporting: Produce accurate and timely weekly financial reports for management, focusing on project costs, cash flow, and overall company performance.

  • Payment Scheduling: Create and manage a detailed weekly payment schedule for subcontractors and suppliers.

  • Project Support: Work closely with the Project Management team, providing financial information, data, and reports to aid in project monitoring and decision-making.

Required Experience & Skills:

  • Proven, substantial experience as a Bookkeeper/Accounts Manager, ideally within the UK Construction Industry.

  • Mandatory: Expert working knowledge of QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel and Google sheets.

  • Essential: In-depth, practical experience with CIS rules, subcontractor verification, and monthly HMRC CIS returns.

  • Strong understanding of HMRC procedures and compliance requirements.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.

  • Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple deadlines effectively.
